How Facebook Uses your Personal Pictures in Ads?

How Facebook Uses your Personal Pictures in AdsFacebook is growing each day and so are the risks that your social existence is no more a private affair. Facebook, as a part of its progress strategy has rephrased its “Statement of Rights and Responsibilities” policy at the end of August where the team has proclaimed at cut that all the content and information which the user shares on Facebook is a Facebook property, which the team can use as per the requirement of the idea of globalizing the social media and bringing the world at a point-Facebook.

It was Facebook graph search previously where we discussed how all your private data, say your whereabouts, your check-in details are been shared by friends and friends of friends, and most alarming news here is that your profile photo also appears with the Ads which Facebook shows.

Profile Pictures appear with Facebook Ads

The advertisement s you see beside your profile are known as Social ads which are published by Facebook in return of earning some decent amount from the advertisers, companies, marketers who want to market their products and services. It is nothing new for the Facebook users who know it quite well about the earning mechanism of Facebook but what has brought their attention towards their privacy concern is the new move introduced by Facebook. A user will be able to see the pictures of his friends who have liked the page or product which is been advertised on his page by chance even. This means that if you have liked the brand or fan page of ‘Coca Cola’ and the ad appears on your friend’s page, he will be able to see your profile picture which Facebook already said, belongs to it.

FACEBOOK AD AND PROFILE PICTURES

If you haven’t read the new transparency released by Facebook regarding the privacy rights, we recommend you to have a look at it so that you know what you think is yours is actually not yours anymore.

According to Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities:

You give us permission to use your name, profile picture, content, and information in connection with commercial, sponsored, or related content (such as a brand you like) served or enhanced by us. This means, for example, that you permit a business or other entity to pay us to display your name and/or profile picture with your content or information, without any compensation to you. If you have selected a specific audience for your content or information, we will respect your choice when we use it.

How to secure your profile picture?

There is no problem which does not have a solution; this is at least true when it comes to protecting your content online. You can opt out of this service by changing your privacy settings only.

Go to your “Privacy Settings,” and click on the “Ads” tab on the left hand side and edit the settings so that your social info is not included in ads. You cannot, however, opt-out of Sponsored Stories, which are essentially another type of ad. If you like a story on a brand page or share that you engaged with a brand, that brand can pay Facebook to ensure that it shows up in your friends’ feeds.

Now this is simple, isn’t it?

It is always better to be precautious rather than being lazy especially when it is about your privacy.

Enjoy Safe Facebooking,

Best Wishes,
