Why Do Musicians Dominate Social Media?

Why-do-musicians-Dominate-Social-MediaWe recently compiled and researched the Twitter top 10 most followed celebrities. Looking at the list we realize the list is completely dominated by musicians.

Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears are the seven musicians who dominated the list.

Only three non-musicians made it to the top 10 list — Barack Obama (President), Ellen DeGeneres (TV Host) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Footballer).

We checked the social media feeds of the popular musicians and closely analyzed their followers growth.

The music industry is very much dependent on social media. Twitter, facebook, YouTube, etc. are getting more popular than Television, Radio, Press, etc.

Why do musicians dominate social media? Why are all other public figures ignored?

It is not actors, politicians, TV stars, sports personalities who dominate social media, but musicians are seen winning the social media race.

Even the so called “Social Media Gurus” are far behind these singing superstars. It makes us think… Why?

1. Musicians tend to be loud mouths.

Almost every week there is someone from the music industry getting involved in some kind of twitter fight.

In most cases, the music fans get divided; and the fight is no longer only between the singers, but also amongst their fans.

2. Musicians don’t need scripts.

Almost all the top followed musicians handle their accounts themselves. There is no one writing tweets for them. They themselves come up with entertaining lines and jokes.

On the other hand, many actors and politicians have someone else handling their accounts and writing tweets or social media updates for them.

3. Musicians are not neutral or diplomatic.

Unlike actors, musicians especially the pop singers are not at all seen being diplomatic.

Instead of a neutral remark, pop stars are often seen having outrageous opinions and comments.

Whereas the actors mostly try to be diplomatic because they don’t want to offend anyone.

4. Internet fame doesn’t lasts long.

Musicians definitely have learned the art of making news. Whether it be new album releases or a controversial update, everything they do makes a headline.

They know fame doesn’t lasts longer on the Internet. And the music business is about being relevant to grab endorsement deals.

More followers = More influence.

Over to you!

We think the music artists are more popular on Twitter and other social media sites because of the personality they carry and the ton of drama they bring with them.

Now, it’s your turn to take the discussion further. Let us know your views in the comments below — why musicians rule social media?
